This is hysterical. I started seeing cars like this allegedly being “barn finds” about seven years ago. This was in an effort to drive up auction prices by alleging authenticity. Most prevalent tool for creating these barn finds was to buy a lot of a Hollywood set dressing tool called “Fullers Earth“ and dust it over the car.

More likely an attempt to boost the price. There's a hidden cost though. Fullers Earth is notiously difficult to remove.
