Started reading Karen Hao’s Empire of AI, the OpenAI takedown book. The tone is cringe negativity only but I’m looking forward to any behind the scenes info. So far haven’t learned anything new. Surprisingly little on how Sama and Thiel befriended one another.

According to Chapter 2, Musk essentially had a hissy fit over Greg and Ilya taking their time choosing a CEO between Musk and Altman, both of whom they had reservations about. When they proposed a meeting, Musk got pissed and told them to stuff it and he no longer wanted the job. Altman had the opposite reaction, gave up his in progress California Gubernatorial bid exploration (he was focus grouping his candidacy) and became CEO of OpenAI
