Fear is deliberate, it makes the world safer. People not going into depth means it will stay off the table.
If everyone knew you could depopulate an entire city without irradiating it significantly, nukes would be used more frequently. If everyone knew you could kill an army of tanks without damaging the equipment, get in, and turn them around on your enemies, nuclear proliferation would be a damned nightmare.
