this client had autoscaling c3 instances in a cluster. the c3 family is >10 years old. transitioned to a c7a base with spot for scaling via c7a/c6/c5. newer instances are faster + more efficient, so you can use smaller instance sizes + horizontal scaling + spot pricing to save money.
