The glyph design used Norm Replica as the primary inspiration (https://lineto.com/typefaces/replica/#family) and then "each glyph is a blend between slices of Roman letters and Japanese characters"

I just saw the video and the article on the process. I loved the idea of mixing glyphs from two alphabets but I realize that the way they created it is very clever.
