Me in my "seriously learning German" era, spending every other day now trying to guess whether "computer" or some other random object is feminine, masculine, or neutral

der Computer also an sich ist es nicht schwer, wenn man damit aufgewachsen ist aber es gibt auch keine Regel also muss man es wohl einfach durch Übung intuitiv hinkriegen. ich weiß nicht, ob ich das selbst hinkriegen würde, wenn ich nicht schon Deutsch könnte.

This proves Duolingo doesn't work. One year streak and I can't understand 2 sentences of what you said 😭

Duolingo is pretty good though. I’ve been using it daily too, and in my A2 courses I already knew almost all the material and vocabulary from Duolingo

Yeah that was meant as a joke. Duolingo is pretty good at getting someone from knowing nothing to being comfortable with a new language! How I learned English though was reading books and watching movies. I was a kid and had a lot of free time so I would start a movie with subtitles then pause at every sentence and look up the words in a dictionary! An English to English dictionary! That dictionary got torn after a while because I had to look words in the definition of another word up....
