I think that's something Emerson even mentions in his essay on Nature. He uses the stars as an example, that it's in a sense crazy that they exist - yet we take them for granted. Imagine now, they'd not be always around - how would we see them then? Ironically, people in well-lit cities would probably not even notice for a while haha
