i finally started reading the german philosopher erich fromm (thanks in part to @naomiii). 

i'm currently reading "escape from freedom," and in this essay i draw parallels between his perspective on the wrong ways to deal with the burden of individual freedom and the idea of british architect christopher alexander that solutions must fit the context of their problem.
