My closest friend is a high functioning alcoholic. He's very good at his job. Worked his way up one of the largest banks in the world, managing a large wealth management district that spanned from NY to Chicago. Was making $800K a year in salary and then showed up to a Zoom meeting drunk. And then another one. And then a night at the bar with coworkers were he disparaged the company. Today after a 6 month investigation he was let go. Alcoholism is a hell of disease and catches up with most people eventually.

alcohol doesn’t always blow your life up at once. sometimes it just quietly rearranges the pieces until you don’t recognize the picture anymore.
