“I decided it was time to hop off what I call the “Hot Girl Hamster Wheel”—the litany of recurring expenses necessary to be conventionally attractive. When you’re on the wheel, every dollar spent is a commitment to spending more in the future because most of these services have built-in maintenance costs, like replacing old gel nail polish or correcting the color of unsightly, grown-out roots.” You have no idea what hope it fills me with to see a woman disavowing the Hot Girl Hamster Wheel in the pages of the WSJ I hopped off after COVID Does it mean I have to sacrifice other things — yes But the extra money back I can reinvest in myself and those around me in ways that have higher ROI for me 🚨 BEAUTY IS A DEPRECIATING ASSET WITH RISING MAINTENANCE COSTS 🚨 https://archive.is/1W68z

Not to mention the incalculable worth of recognizing the value inherent "inside". The "i was enough when i was born" mentality. These superficial things do matter, in some ways. People do judge books by the cover. But expensive beauty routines are legible to everyone around you and tells people precisely that. I want to be summed up for my good hygiene. My dedicated gym routine. Etc
