Over the past few years, centralized Web3 protocols have repeatedly failed under pressure from hacks to insider threats while trustless, decentralized systems have proven far more resilient. Within this context, IBC in the Cosmos ecosystem has emerged as the most secure and scalable cross chain communication protocol, thanks to its reliance on light clients and state proofs. Expanding IBC beyond Cosmos not only improves security compared to centralized bridges but also unlocks direct integration between high liquidity hubs and innovative app chains. However, directly verifying Tendermint blocks on EVM without zero knowledge or IBC‌ specific precompiles is gas intensive and impractical, often requiring millions of gas per block. For cross chain activity to scale, bridging must become as cheap and seamless as standard token transfers . Lower cost bridging combined with mesh security can pave the way for a new generation of interconnected, scalable app chains and rollups.
