Reminds me of when someone told me, with a straight face, that 1k words was considered long form. Wondering if we’re seeing a further collapse now where even 100 words is an instant DQ for consumption. https://x.com/antoniogm/status/1936423068630679726

People used to listen to 3-hr politician speeches ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ These detailed, ancient Phil Gyford notes on Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death, floated up for me this morning. Kinda amazing the book out before any of this “internet” stuff was happening. Via Baldur who you also probably know/know of, in a post can’t find again now https://www.gyford.com/phil/writing/2004/09/26/amusing-ourselve/ https://www.baldurbjarnason.com/essays/

Sometimes think about the long dharma talk phenomenon in this regard… like, we have to give our brains _something_ to do all day or they really do just get up to mischief, mostly

Thinking of the broad category of unhelpful patterns of rumination* generally and specifically of the Anne Lamott quote “My mind is a neighborhood I try not to go into alone.” *also "the ravens of unrestful thinking"... which I think I coined for myself in my 40s when those ravens first started keeping me up a night
