Ukraine failed to make a $655 million sovereign debt payment on GDP-linked warrants to a group of creditors led by Mark Brodsky (Elliott alumni) and Richard Deitz’s (Soros alumni) hedge funds. The default is causing panic in the currency markets resulting in depreciation of the hryvnia and capital outflows. There are worries it could trigger a systemic financial collapse.
