The giant panda is one of China's national symbols and one of the rarest animals in the world. This adorable animal lives mostly in bamboo forests in the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu in central China. Estimates indicate that the population of giant pandas in the wild is about 1,800 individuals. Although their survival status has improved in recent years, they are considered a vulnerable species. The Chinese government has made sure to protect this valuable animal by establishing protected areas and panda breeding centers.
