I've been repeatedly disappointed by crypto apps deciding to give up on whatever they were doing, when it seems like a few small tweaks could be all they need. Content coins correctly worked out that everyone wants to earn money. But they missed that very few want to spend money. For the content coin model to work, the money needs to come from somewhere else, and in web2.0, that's advertising (or, increasingly for X, a 'premium' subscription). The core idea - getting paid to create value on social media - is a great one. The tweak is in 'Where is the money coming from?'. Other users buying content coins was not it. But if Base app introduced ads, and used the ad revenue to buy content coins? Sadly it seems we won't know. Farcaster sold premium ('pro') subscriptions - but seemingly did nothing with the money! I wonder what would happen if they *pivoted the method not the mission*, and made the small tweak of distributing the pro subscription revenue to the best posts on the platform.
