i have said something along these lines so, so, so many times the past 3 months: "you took a thoughtless action that negatively affected me and was disrespectful to my time (and/or property). you need to acknowledge, own, and apologize for it, like an adult, and then we can move forward." this has ended multiple relationships as people simply can't admit or apologize for their mistakes and selfish behaviors. it's actually insanity
