potentially dumb question but can someone explain the logic of “subletting” your apartment out for 2 weeks while you’re on vacation? like is rent really that high or are people really that cash strapped or what?

I would do it if it was someone I know or friend of friend that I trust. Put it this way—if I went to Hawaii for two weeks and spent $1k and that entire trip could be paid for just by letting a friend crash, yeah absolutely I'd do it.
