Not sure how much interest there is in this topic, but here it goes. If you want to get dress shoes, my STRONG recommendation is to make sure they're Goodyear-welted. The short version is these kinds of shoes will last a lifetime. You DO NOT throw them away. They're made of high quality leather, and the soles can be replaced by a cobbler. I think the best starter shoes would be Allen Edmonds. Look for Park Ave which is fairly neutral. Brand new, you can find them under $200 when they're on sale. If you're OK with buying used, you can find them under $100. This might seem a little steep, but remember, they last a lifetime. :) If you have questions about other brands or want other recs, let me know -- I love riffing about this stuff. https://allenemonds.com

The best dress shoes I ever got werenβt from any trademark or fancy store. Instead, it was a pair of handmade shoes crafted by a Lebanese master shoemaker, valued at less than a half of a store shoe and lasted more than 15 years attending one or two weekly concertos. So, yeah! π€

totally man. I almost bought a bespoke from India (had to make my own foot measurements and send them) but COVID happened and they couldn't produce not to sound like a shoe snob, but I guess I will here...if you're a REAL shoe person, you stay away from brands like Louboutin. Shoe quality is very questionable and they cost way more than than a solidly crafted shoe

That is true, and the shoe is like the most underrated clothing piece. Bad shoes, all the body suffers!
