Not sure how much interest there is in this topic, but here it goes. If you want to get dress shoes, my STRONG recommendation is to make sure they're Goodyear-welted. The short version is these kinds of shoes will last a lifetime. You DO NOT throw them away. They're made of high quality leather, and the soles can be replaced by a cobbler. I think the best starter shoes would be Allen Edmonds. Look for Park Ave which is fairly neutral. Brand new, you can find them under $200 when they're on sale. If you're OK with buying used, you can find them under $100. This might seem a little steep, but remember, they last a lifetime. :) If you have questions about other brands or want other recs, let me know -- I love riffing about this stuff. https://allenemonds.com

Recommendations for great quality Apparel & Shoes are always appreciated. I love Allen Edmonds on my younger days! I probably have not worn dress shoes since my corporate years almost 2 life times ago. I’m now a Cole Haan kind of guy, I have really sensitive feet and love walking fast so need the most comfortable shoes, which after sneakers I think Cole Haan does the trick.

One shoe you might want to consider if comfort is a priority is Allen Edmonds Park Ave Sneakers. Although I didn’t wear them to FarCon, they’re my usual city shoes. Allen Edmonds fan loathe them, but I’m a fan. :) I have 2, and I wanna say I somehow copped each for like $79
