Just typing my thought process, you've excluded A and E on your first guess (sth like SCALE), it's almost impossible to tell whether you've excluded O first or I, so I'm thinking what I would go first with? I would go with O so your (technically mine but we're talking about your word) 2nd guess is HORNY, then you have gone with H after S with an I, so it probably is SHINY

I just noticed a bug here, your 1st guess should have not included C (probably SLATE) so your 2nd guess should have been CORNY then you have tried H on your 3rd guess
