Oh ho, rumors that Japan is discussing removing the permanent visa status, and getting hard on immigration. Rumors, and HR departments asking people to share their exact status, etc. Highly qualified colleague (HB-1 like) whose 5-year visa renewal has become one year despite marriage and child. New government alright. But the mood is different this time.

yeah that’s unsettling when policy shifts quietly hit the people first before the headlines even drop sounds like japan tightening the gates again under the usual “reform” label

Unfortunately that may be a reality. This year has seen the new far-right party move from 1 to like 14 seats out of some 120 at the Diet. As MJGA is hard to pronounce, they went for “Japanese First”, on information debunked by official stats.
