Commissioning portraits is understandable, since it was the only way of having someone's picture, therefore a competitive Art Market sounds natural 😊 😉

Beautiful Mari! I'm quite certain [didn't check] that Sforza was the big opponent to Borgia who was elected Pope in conclave that period. Borgia commissioned a couple portraits [1 of his daughter and 1 of his mistress] from a painter not expensive as DaVinci. Church was one of the biggest commissioners then.
