they also never display deep replies (only direct responses to top level casts)

without deep replies being bumped this is pretty useless, convos don't start a single comment deep

😂, you really want a deep convo from a random post that's not posted on an artist channel and also posted by a dev/founder.
The poster wouldn't want a deep convo either (my thought here though, if I'm in that shoe, I wouldn't either). 
That being said, I believe a narrative needs to go with a post( be it, pics, video{not available here now}, gif, or audio) to get a deep conversion about it. We are in a social space of Gen-Z. Random replies comes with the age.

Deep convo helps relieve stress, most times I engage WhatsApp AI to convo too

Just finding out video post works well here... I wonder why folks don't use it most often. I love video posts....
