People will use any little bit of leverage to try to make themselves feel special. Musicians if you’re self taught - don’t pay this any mind. Just because you can’t speak the lingo doesn’t mean you’re not a musician. I’ve been fighting this my whole life, people with advanced music education will always try to make you feel like you’re not as good as a musician because you can’t speak the old language. It’s simply not true - in practical terms: people are listening to you sing/play the notes they’re not listening to you read/write the notes.
