if I understand this correctly, it means data retention policies for apps that use OpenAI API simply cannot be honored

Really everyone I talk to wants this. I see a bunch of scattered efforts, no strong coordination yet as far as I have seen. What's the best approaches you know?

For local AI you mean? I use LMstudio and ollama, not exclusively but they do exist

I need to try LMstudio. I also tried to use an ollama plugin for obsidian, but I have yet to find a system with local memory that works in a desirable way.

Agree about the memory issue. And in general the UX of the app matters a lot and is lacking in local options.

There’s an MCP called basic-memory that I thought was an interesting concept but in practice felt clunky. Might be better as the models have improved since.

I wish there was something where I generate an artifact from my conversations, similar to Cursor. Markdown isn't really it though, as far as I can tell from my experiments.
