incredibly excited to see that there will be a new Thomas Pynchon novel released in October this year.

Pynchon is one of my favourite novelists. he has an incredibly sharp sense of humour and a dark, cinematic quality to his prose. his work inspired a lot of my past photographic work as well as my master’s thesis.

some of his older work like Gravity’s Rainbow and The Crying of Lot 49 can be challenging to get through and quite postmodern, but his most recent novel Bleeding Edge is very accessible and almost a beach read. highly recommended.

the Paul Thomas Anderson adaptation of Inherent Vice is also excellent and well worth watching.

if you’re particularly interested in period pieces then Against The Day could be a good start given the setting. read the synopsis and see what you think. it’s fairly long though.

I would avoid Gravity’s Rainbow, Crying of Lot 49, and V until you’re more familiar with his style and ready for something more challenging. particularly GR is really a slog.

on the “lighter” side is Bleeding Edge and Inherent Vice that read more like pulp novels.

Barely familiar with his work and I am a bit of a slow reader. 

love digging into sociological  metaphors and intersection with technology of the time
