I think I have spent at least 10yr directly or indirectly grappling with the unsustainable nature of creative output (music, photography, “content,” whatever) ultimately it’s just a black pill to swallow that most content is not going to be profitable to produce unless you’re top 1% or higher

Define profitable? Make profit? Or sustainable main source of income?

enough so that you aren’t working 8-12hr/day on other things, which largely prevents you from producing new things

That’s fair.. I think today more than ever, if you stay consistent, and build 10k followers, there’s a really good chance you can turn that into a salary. Potentially even 1000 TRUE followers that really support you.. But let’s say 10k followers. Get 5% of your 10k followers to sign up to patreon at $25/month to support the cause. $150k And that’s one of the simplest, least creative ways to monetize. Could even cut it in half 🤷‍♂️ I think building a community is easier than it’s ever been. That’s all any of it really is imo. I don’t think you have to be in the top 1% of skill level to make it a full time job. The size of the community carries a lot of creators, not necessarily the quality of their work.
