so the tldr; on o3 pro is that vanilla o3 got nerfed and doesn’t think as long, whereas o3 pro is more thoughtful than even “old” o3

Slowly making some progress on the prompting side on getting o3 to think and use tools again.

completely agree, we are missing an essential middle ground between new o3 and o3 pro. latter is too slow and clunky, former is too dumb like 4o.

Old o3 was perfect for startups.
Now you can use nerfed consumer o3 or o3-pro which seems to be for reasoning over huge datasets.

Vanilla o3 feels more lightweight now, maybe for speed or cost reasons. But o3 Pro really brings back that deeper reasoning — feels like a smart upgrade for serious users.
