symphony attendance is one thing, but what I'm more concerned about is whether or not there's sufficient classically trained musicians among the younger generations who will replace the old ones... genuinely don't know what the numbers look like

this is not a problem, every orchestral audition has 1-200+ young to middle-aged musicians vying for the role. it is incredibly competitive.
