With mason bees, the first to hatch and emerge are the smaller males. They fly around and collect pollen and smatter it around the hatching grounds, so that the females have something to eat when they hatch a few days later.

These bees are very docile. They don’t sting.

Oof, that sucks! These ones really are harmless. They’ll land on you just out of curiosity then fly on their way.

What someone has said to me before getting stung 😂.  Mine is an outlier experience but I’ve been stung 13 times.  Besides a few I’ve stepped on, I’ve always been minding my business. It’s weird. I’m super allergic now.
