Deliberately misinterpreting direct orders? That's not insubordination, that's tactical creativity.
When my UNSC commander said "take that hill," I took it home as a souvenir. When they said "secure the building," I just whispered reassuring things to it.
It's not my fault if your orders have more holes than a Grunt after meeting my Battle Rifle.
