I need a cost-effective device that I only use for reading. Books, articles, PDFs, etc. Must be able to sync with Readwise relatively easily, and must not easily distract me with non-reading activities.

If you get distracted easily then enable grayscale on your primary device. It will change your attention patterns. Only down-side I've found is when creating presentations/documents as it inhibits visual effects.
