Apparently, Carl Friedrich Gauss had an idea for how to signal aliens that humans are an intelligent species, all the way back in 1820. He proposed drawing a gigantic diagram of Pythagoras’ theorem by planting trees in the Siberian tundra to draw a triangle and three rectangles.
