Prigov's work is amazing. Amusing that we now read so much of this kind of concrete poetry as ASCII related, when it really is a classic case of: 1. Creative mechanism (here, typewriter / printer) presents new format with given parameters 2. New art format inevitably results And as usual, there is no single origin artist, it's a whole network of simultaneous co-invention.

For sure, I think Borges talked about how contemporaries are the ones who frame and contextualise their precursors. He was talking about writing but you can apply it to any creative discipline. I guess new technologies also reframe older technologies, as you rightly say. I've never been keen on the idea of originators of movements, to quote again: as the composer Tod Dockstader said 'No one is responsible for an emergence; no one can glory in it, since it always occurs in the interstice'
