In 1959, English teacher Anthony Burgess fainted during a lesson. He had a brain tumor and, according to the doctor, he had no more than a year to live. Burgess decided that he should leave his wife some money and began writing feverishly. This is how A Clockwork Orange (1962) and several other novels were written. And the writer somehow recovered (by melting his tumor into a novel), lived for more than 30 years and died in 1993 from lung cancer.
