The U.S. and Mexico are close to a deal scrapping Trump's 50% steel tariff on limited imports. Talks led by Commerce Secretary Raimondo exclude Trump. Under the new terms, U.S. buyers can import tax-free if shipments stay below a historical trade cap. The limit will be higher than a 2019 agreement during Trump's first term. Last year, Mexico supplied 3.2 million tons of steel, 12% of total U.S. imports. The 2019 deal capped imports at 2015-2017 average levels.
