Perplexity perplexes me. Meta approached them for an acquisition before Scale AI. Apple is in talks for this too. They make good ads. I use it (because its fast, model switcher), but for real work, i.e. not casual chat, I go back to the proper llm's (o3, claude 4, gemini 2.5 pro). I know they have a userbase. But they don't rank highly in app stores, etc. They have very good marketing. So what am I missing about Perplexity?

It's a solid product for reading news, tracking sports score, following stock market (e.g. live earnings call summary transcript), and overall good at chat too. Their assistant on Android works much better than ChatGPT - both integration and ux. Am not surprised at all that Apple and Meta have approached them.
