On this day in 330AD, Constantine I established the city of Constantinople (Now Istanbul) as the new capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. The city walls would stand for more than 1000 years before being sacked by the Ottoman Empire in 1453. Imagine that! A city 4x as old as the current U.S.A.
