Fred DeLuca founded the first Subway restaurant at the age of 17

Subway is one of the largest American restaurant chains. This restaurant offers only submarine sandwiches and salads to customers on its menu. The brand was first founded by Fred DeLuca with capital from Peter Buck in 1965. Providing healthy food and quality service to customers caused the number of Subway restaurant branches in the world to increase rapidly and exceed 44,000 branches. Luca was only 17 years old when he founded the first Subway branch.

His only motivation for founding it was to earn money to pay for college. After the brand became famous, he started franchising it and eventually Subway became the largest fast food chain in America.  The Subway restaurant chain has branches in more than 24,000 locations in the United States, and DeLuca died in 2015 at the age of 67.
