State of #Crypto Industry Growth As of late 2024, approximately 6.8% of the global population—equating to around 562 to 568 million people—own cryptocurrency. The 6.8% of the world’s population that owns crypto (about 562–568 million people) does not control the market equally. Data shows that a very small percentage of that group—less than 1%—controls the majority of crypto wealth. As of the latest data, the top 1% of Bitcoin addresses control over 90% of the total Bitcoin supply.

About 0.01% of BTC addresses (whales)—including early adopters, exchanges, and institutional wallets—hold the majority of coins. Of the ~568 million crypto users, fewer than 5 million people (under 1%) likely control the majority of total market value. These include large investors, crypto exchanges, institutional players, and some early adopters. While the #crypto industry is growing in user base, wealth and influence remain heavily concentrated in the hands of a few. The vast majority of holders own small amounts and have limited or no influence on price movements or governance. The unequal distribution of #crypto wealth allows for significant market manipulation. This is one of the biggest criticisms of the crypto industry thus, the demand for regulation of the space by many people.
