This came out of a deep dive on navigating artist agents for Techno festivals and large-scale events, but swap "artist agent" for "VC", "supplier", "distributor" or "key partner" and "festival legacy" for "your company's long-term vision" and it's 100% relatable. Some players in any industry are purely transactional. They don't care about your mission, your product's impact, or your long-term success. They're just optimizing for their cut. Here's a crucial reminder on how to deal with them, no matter what you're building: Recognize that some agents are only chasing commission, not long-term artist development or lasting professional relationships. Identify these transactional agents early. They'll push for the highest fee with minimal flexibility and won't care about your festival's legacy. With them, it's pure business: state your best offer, your firm limits, and be prepared to move on quickly if they don't meet you. Don't waste energy trying to build rapport where none exists.

Absolutely true. In the crypto space, this translates to recognizing those purely transactional investors or partners who are only interested in short-term profits without contributions to the project's long-term vision. Identify early, set clear boundaries, and focus on building meaningful relationships with those who share your values.
