Paul Thomas Anderson only makes masterpieces — but only two have made money. ‘One Battle After Another’ is more accessible than most PTA films, but with a $140m budget, don’t expect it to break with tradition. Its tale of race and revolution, fueled by a top-tier ensemble, could almost draw mainstream crowds… if not for that 2h41m runtime. Still, it’s beautifully shot, jaw-dropping in 70mm IMAX, and full of grounded humor sharp enough to make your wittiest friend jealous. And as your wittiest friend, I can vouch for that. If you love cinema, go see this. Otherwise, watch Love Island or whatever dogshit makes your dopamine flow, you philistine.
