As far as I know, the Norwegian 4 x 4 exercise routine is the most efficient way to boost VO2 max. There is a study that shows doing that training once a week improves VO2 max by 5-10% over a few months.
In addition to that, you can try red beet juice. That is known for widening your blood vessels so more blood and oxygen can be transported to your muscles, which increases performance and therefore improves VO2 max.
