Alex Mashinsky, of Celsius infamy, has been sentenced to to 12 years in prison for running the Celsius fraud. At its peak it held $25bn aum. Interesting timing amid lots of lenience to dodgy crypto people. BitMex got a pardon, CZ angling for one: both violated money laundering laws. By contrast, CEL was a flat out fraud, like FTX. “The case for tokenisation is strong but it is not a licence to deceive,” said the prosecutor. Nice to see the nuance.

He’s old enough today that if he serves his full sentence he might die in jail
