"Since 2023, REALITY has explored two parallel creative channels: the ecstatic drone, minimalism, and meditative repetition of one world, and the pulverising breakdowns of hardcore, metal, and powerviolence of another. For Clift, these opposing forces form a cathartic, near-spiritual continuum driven by repetition, ecstasy, and euphoric release. Recorded in Autumn 2024 during a period of bereavement, MARA captures a 25-minute free-play session on open-tuned guitar—the first sound to emerge after loss—later met by Thea Grant’s improvised vocals and mixed by Misha Hering at Holy Mountain, Hackney. The result is both confrontational and consolatory: monolithic, echo-drenched guitar layers forming a tidal, hymnal foundation for Grant’s ethereal sound design, producing a cathedral-scale threnody where wordless voice and feedback render love and loss in stark monochrome."
