How would you feel if a host — with whom you have an upcoming, first-time booking in a country you've never visited before — proposed coordinating arrival via out-of-band comms like WhatsApp or iMessage rather than Airbnb's native messaging feature?

Red flag or no big deal?

I would directly question why the Airbnb messaging is insufficient, and push to use it because you're more comfortable with it

Thanks for the input. Yeah, maybe less convenient, but messaging through Airbnb seems better for the sake of accountability and protecting my interests as the guest. I'm also sidestepping a question asking about specific inbound flight details — seems more appropriate with a major hotel or resort where there may be an airport shuttle; kinda off-putting from an Airbnb host. Or maybe just different norms in a different locale, idk.
