Had a chance to watch Look Back yesterday (being a huge fan of the manga). It was WONDERFUL to see all of the big emotional beats in the manga animated in full colour (especially Fujino’s rain walk of victory).
This movie is all about the relationship between the characters and their relationships with themselves. Neither Fujino nor Kyomoto are whole without the other, but their current flaws prevent them from being together. It’s only by being apart that they can be together. Tragic and fitting.
In case you didn’t notice, the characters (FUJIno and kyoMOTO) are pieces of the mangaka’s name (Fujimoto). He split himself in two for this extremely personal look.
Watch it! Read it!
