Why aren’t DAO delegates paid a % of the funds they have delegated to them, and then delegation being reset yearly? 

Seems like it would align incentives, and prevent checked out delegates from sticking around.

Hm as someone who by default got a large amount of funds delegated to them in DAOs due to having some pre-existing distribution / name recognition, seems unfair?

Well, to be fair, you’ve been a great delegate! Paying them by default means you get funds, yes, but would hopefully incentivize many more OPUser-esque ppl showing up 😄

For example I was the largest delegate in Optimism at the start just because people recognized my name in the delegate list, doesn't mean I was the best and most engaged delegate and should be paid the most

I wish token holders would be more informed and factor that in when delegating but in my experience vast majority don't look into details and just delegate to recognized names

Why is it unfair? And also, knowing you’d get paid may change people’s calculus when delegating?

You could solve that by splitting rewards according to sqrt(weight) or even log(weight) rather than linear weight 😄

I was active the entire time I was an official delegate, but I didn't deserve to get the bulk of rewards relative to others who were just as active if not more

I think we would have to make sure you were active to get the rewards.
