some holiday reflections and insights from my friends about crypto:
they think crypto isn’t cool because their first impression was losing money. they see it as gambling. and honestly that’s what dominates the narrative. most people have jobs, families, responsibilities. they prefer the old system because it’s convenient and safe. earning a few extra percentage points on stablecoin yield isn’t worth revisiting the trauma from their first exposure onchain.
crypto continues to have two real use cases right now: stablecoins and speculation. the problem is speculation dominates the conversation while stablecoins stay quiet. the speculative tam is tiny compared to the utility tam, but utility gets buried under casino culture and get rich quick schemes. for crypto to have its ai moment, utility needs to become louder than speculation.
the narrative needs to shift from “this could 100x” to “this actually solves my problem.” until that happens, trad systems will keep winning on convenience and safety.
