I tried a grid bot on kucoin for a while, doing basically the same thing, and didn't have great results, but I have a little test run going of providing liquidity on DEXes and that seems to be doing more or less the same thing... but I also get paid fees.

well I think the bot thing generally works, I probably just sold too soon! But I think the main trick is to start rich, so you can always afford to buy a lot when stuff is early and cheap 😄
